Seth Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 Hi Norman. See if you can install Hijack This so we can see what is running on your computer. Please download the latest version of HijackThis from Trend Micro and click on Download Hijack This Installer and save it to your desktop. Doubleclick HJTInstall.exe to install HijackThis. By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis . Click on Install. It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop. Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis. Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in Notepad. Include this log by copying and pasting in your next reply. Notes: Do not use the AnalyseThis button, its findings are dangerous if misinterpreted. Do not have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless, or required for your computer to run like it should. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. Seth Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 The log shows that you removed Norton, but remnants of it are still lingering. Try and do the following and post the exact error message that if you receive one. Download and run the Norton Removal Tool from here: Download Norton Removal Tool 2009.0.0.37 - A program that can remove some Norton software from your computer - Softpedia Once the computer is restarted, go to Start>Run, type in chkdsk /r (space between the K and the /) and press ok. Press Y at the next screen and restart the computer. Hard drive error correction will begin. Let me know if it does not, as on occasion the command is ignored. If the above does not help, then please post back with the make and model of the computer, as well as its age. Good luck. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help.
