When trying to use skype the sound of my voice from my dell 1525 laptop (Vista) comes out higher pitched than it should be - a bit like a recording that has been speeded up. Does anyone have any ideas how to solve this?

Hi RCC,

Are you using the latest version of Skype? If not, you may want to try to update your software.

You may also want to try to update your Sound Drivers and Direct X to see if that helps.

Please report back with your findings. :)

Good luck,

Mike

Thanks for suggestion Mike. It is the latest version of skype and have updated drivers and direct x to no avail. Is there a simple way to test the built in mic without using the voice test in actual skype app? The laptop is only 2 weeks old so hoping its just a simple set up issue that I've overlooked!

Ok - right click on the sound - bottom right and select properties - click onto the mic and see what the Hz is set to should be 44000Hz I think - anymore will result in squeeky sound unless you have a dedicated soundcard
