Guest /u/Inertia-UK Posted November 6 Posted November 6 We have an RDS farm (4 hosts 1 broker) with about 40 users. Usually less concurrent. Authentication is via Windows Hello NDES certificate. they use roaming profiles (vhdx) Server 2022 Every day 1 or 2 users have a problem when they first login outlook just sticks on "Trying to connect". The users are random, can be any 1 or 2, it always happens at the start of the day when they first login, never a problem once they are connected (outlook doesn't lose connection) If I close outlook the background process stays (for 5+ minutes at least). If you re open outlook the problem is the same. If I end task the background process and re open outlook the problem is the same. The fix is to sign out of the RDS session, sign back in and then its fine, it always connects immedicably. We have been living with this for a long time, but as the sole IT person looking after these users its like groundhog day every morning as no matter how many times I show users how to sign out of RDS most of them just disconnect and reconnect so I have to show them again. Google shows up people with similar problems but no solutions just "Re create your users outlook profiles" but as its not same user this is a system wide problem I want to solve properly not just put a plaster on it. Additional info .. .sometimes 1 specific user will suffer this every day. When this happens I re create their whole RDS profile which solves it being always them, but then it just starts happening to random users again the next day. I thought perhaps they were opening outlook too quickly after login I added in a delay (coded a replacement shell which shows a full always on top screen with a progress bar for 15 seconds whilst explorer loads behind it) this does not help, explorer has been loaded in and settled down before they can launch outlook. I thought about putting this in the outlook subreddit, but I think the problem is related to the environment, local outlook never has this problem Any suggestions for troubleshooting this are welcome. Any similar experiences welcome. TIA submitted by /u/Inertia-UK [link] [comments] Continue reading... Quote
