Windows Movie Maker was a free video editing software from Microsoft. You could not only create videos form still images but even edit your videos. There were a lot of effects availaable that gave you a professional quality videos. The first video I created was on Windows Movie Maker., But they discontinued the service. Why did Microsoft discontinued Windows Movie Maker

They replaced it with another app that didn't have all the functionality of Movie Maker.

Movie maker will work on Windows 11. You can download it at

It's part of Windows Live Essentials which was also discontinued.

Thanks for the link, I found it quite useful. I did not know that had an archive of old software. 😄

I believe the new editing software is called Clipchamp. I've used it for a little bit, however I prefer DaVinci Resolve and honestly it's better than even Windows Movie Maker. I use to use Movie Maker when I first opened my Youtube channel up back in 2008 since I didn't have the money to get Sony Vegas which was the hottest editing software at the time.

I think it's because there are more superior tools for video processing available. Instead, they introduced video editor in Windows 10. It is free still, but people really crave for the good old days of Movie Maker. They found it easy to navigate, plus the fact that it produced good videos.
