Do People Still Use Skype

When Skype was first released, it got 27 million users too quickly and it was a records number of users in 2011. Currently, Skype claims to have 300 million active users but I do not see a lot of people using Skype. I don't remember when I used this VoIP service last time. Why do you think stopped the growth of Skype. Why is Skype not as popular as it used to be in the past?

It is still very much in use by millions of people. Old habits die hard. Skype is still the best to use to communicate with old friends and family.

I haven't really seen too many people talk about using Skype, I want to say Discord really killed Skype. My childhood friend and I used to talk on Skype when it was popular but we started talking again a few years ago and used Discord instead. Also I feel like the companies that used Skype now switched to using Microsoft Teams instead.

I'm not so sure it's relevant any longer. In fact when Microsoft took it over it went downhill. Looks like it will eventually go the way of MSN Messenger which was what Skype replaced.

I think Discord really put a dent in Skype’s marketshare. A lot of users now prefer to use Discord instead of Skype.

However, Skype did pave the way for Discord’s success.

This is my opinion, people left Skype because there are other applications like WhatsApp or Zoom which are simpler to use. There are many criticisms of Skype, but the most significant issue is that Skype has an old and bad design and unfriendly interface. So, people switched to better services.
