Guest rAgAv Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 hi, I've got a really weird problem. Whenever my windows gets logged on, I have to wait till all the programs start up before I use my mouse to click on something. If I click on some part of the screen, say the task bar, before all the programs start up, I can't use the task bar till I re-log in. The task bar functions properly but doesn't respond to mouse or keyboard input. What is wrong here? I tried scanning for viruses and spywares in safe mode. It was clean. I thought that the problem might be in one of the start up programs. so I used MSCONFIG to check out the start up programs. The following were the only ones that I don't know the purpose for:- CFTMON.exe in windows folder. ALCMTR RTHDCPL Can any of you tell me what the problem might be? Regards. -- rAgAv

How much RAM do you have on your system? I have client machines that do the same thing and they only have 256 meg of RAM. If you wait long enough, then everything is fine? If so, it sounds like your system is bogging down loading everything. Try starting up in Safe Mode and see how long it takes (reboot, press F8 continuously after the 1st screen until you get a menu, then select Safe Mode). What AV software are you using? What CPU & speed? Hard drive speed, 5,400 or 7,200? Least expensive performance boost many times is more RAM. -- Terry R. ***Reply Note*** Anti-spam measures are included in my email address. Guest rAgAv Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 Re: PROs!!! I need some help!.. Actually, my hardware has nothing to do with this. I know this because, it was working perfectly a couple of days ago. Then I reinstalled my XP and installed a wrong driver or illegitimate service pack ( I got SP3 pre-release from a programmer working for Microsoft). Its probably caused due to that. I don't actually know. May be I have to reinstall again.
Guest Curt Christianson Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 Re: PROs!!! I need some help!.. Hi rAgAv, From the way you have described your "problem", and if I'm understanding you correctly, things don't seem to work correctly unless you wait until all the programs have loaded. Is that right? If my understanding is right, then you have no problem. Clicking on most anything while Windows is still initializing the startup group, will result in some "flaky" behavior. Wait till everything loads and all is quiet, then start clicking away. -- HTH, Curt Windows Support Center http://www.aumha.org Practically Nerded,... http://dundats.mvps.org/Index.htm "rAgAv" <ragav.payne@googlemail.com> wrote in message news:1189567228.316290.320970@w3g2000hsg.googlegroups.com... | hi, | | I've got a really weird problem. And addressing your original post in this thread, have you scheduled your antivirus program to scan your hard drive at startup?
