I have an old HP laptop. It works well but it is very slow. It takes a lot of time to boot. How do I improve its speed without making any hardware adjustments. Are there some settings that can improve my laptop's speed?

If you can upgrade the memory then do it. That will give a significant boost. Also, if you cam, upgrade the memory for the onchip video card. That would be in the bios. Those 2 things will boost performance.

It's not possible to upgrade the video processor in laptops any longer. The bios setting was removed in most. In any case on laptops that did have the option it was always set out of the factory to max value.

My laptop memory is 90 percent full, do you think this could be one of the reasons why it is slow? What about hardware adjustments, what could I replace or add to make my laptop better.

Windows likes to fill the memory. It allows things to run faster since they are already in memory. Problem is most software devs don't know how to use this feature of Windows so they add to memory and don't release when you close the app. I make it a routine that I use task manager to fully shutdown unused apps.
