My laptop is overheating, how can I fix it?

My laptop turns off by itself and the temp is very high also. I’ve attempted to close the programs that I do not need, but it has been to no avail. What kind of solutions are there to solve this problem?

Make sure to check the airflow and clear the dust and debris that collects at the intakes. Also stop any resource intense application or programs. Change the power plan. make sure it's on balanced. 

Update the drivers if you haven't in a long time.

Sometimes you need to make sure the area around the laptop is clear so get airflow.
