Vista connecting to 2003 server problem

When I attempt to connect to a 2003 server using Vista Ent. I recieve the

following error message.

"The security policy of your computer requires you to type a password on the

windows security dialogue box. However, the remote computer you want to

connect to cannot recognize credentials supplied using the windows security

dialogue box. For assistance, contact your system administrator or technical

support."

However, when I use a Vista Business WS, I have no problem. I have tried

setting the Server Authentication to "connect, even if authentication fails".

Any ideas?

I believe you have a GP set on the failing machine that requires the use of

Secure Desktop when entering credentials. If that GP is set, the

credentials are encrypted in memory, and can only be read by a machine which

supports CredSSP (Vista or higher).

To figure out if this is your problem:

1. At a Run prompt, type "gpedit.msc" (w/o quotes) and hit enter

2. Drill down to Computer Configuration->Administrative Templates->Windows

Components->Credential User Interface

3. Check the setting for "Require trusted path for credential entry." If

it is Enabled, an enhanced security model for password transmission is

required, and you cannot remote desktop to pre-Vista machines. If Disabled

or Not Configured it should work just fine. If it isn't enabled but you

still have the problem, repeat from step 2 starting from User Configuration

instead of Computer Configuration

4. If it is Enabled and this is not desired, and you have permissions to

alter the setting, set it back to Not Configured, hit apply, close the Group

Policy editor, then execute "gpupdate.exe" (w/o quotes) at a Run prompt.

Once it finishes, you can reopen Remote Desktop and try connecting to the

WS03 machine again.
