Motherboard or something else?

If anyone can help then please do...

 

 

I built a computer a few years back from a Asus K8V MOBO with a Saphire Radion 9800se graphics card. All had been fine up until a few weeks back when it suddenly cut out as if it just lost power in a instant. But would turn back on and re-boot instantly. This happened a few times over a month or so.

 

Then it died one day and wouldn't boot up at all. All the lights come on for the hard-drive, dvd and the fans work but the monitor does not seem to pick up any signal from the graphics card (the green light on the monitor comes on, before entering 'idle' mode after a few seconds!).

 

I have taken the bottom out and cleaned out any dust. Removed the battery. Made sure the connections are still firmly connected. But still no change.

 

So I was wondering if its the mobo that has gone completly, or maybe the graphics card has fried! Or maybe something my limited knowledge hasn't thought of. As its an old friend (and Im skint!) I would rather not replace the whole thing.

 

Any insight guys?

This sounds like a knackered PSU which is only supplying a given amount of voltage to the components.

 

Have you tried another GPU in the box?

Yeah.

 

Used a 610 and my 500w on it, and same trouble with both. But I will buy a new one tomorrow as both are old now.

Sounds like the GPU (Graphics card)

take the GPU out and clean the connectors both on the card and in the slot for dust

Waiting to buy a new or used GPU now.

 

But for some reason my local shops don't carry any! Wonder why that is!!!!!!! ;)

 

Will have to order when from the net when I get a chance and win some money!

You can order AGP 8x cards from scan.co.uk etc and they are not expensive at all
