Guest Vincenzo Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 I am having trouble getting my LG DVD writer to read DVDs. I receive a system error in the event viewer: Event ID 51 An error was detected on device \Device\CdRom0 during a paging operation ; Event ID 7 \Device\CdRom0, has a bad block ; Event ID 9 The device, \Device\Ide\IdePort1, did not respond within the timeout period. ; Event ID 11 The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Ide\IdePort1. Any ideas what to do? Vincenzo
Guest Rey Santos Posted September 13, 2007 Posted September 13, 2007 RE: Trouble reading DVDs In almost all cases, these messages are being posted due to hardware problems with either the controller or, more likely, a device that is attached to the controller in question. The hardware problems can be associated with poor cabling, incorrect termination or transfer rate settings, a faulty device, or, in very rare cases, a poorly written device driver. More information about Event ID 51 http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/244780/ -- Rey "Vincenzo" wrote: > I am having trouble getting my LG DVD writer to read DVDs. Guest Vincenzo Posted September 13, 2007 Posted September 13, 2007 RE: Trouble reading DVDs The drive can view data CDs and commercial audio CDs. It will not view DVDs or CDR/CDRWs. With the later the drive spins and the access lights blinks steadily every second until it fails which would tell me it isn't really reading the disks. If it was a hardware problem I would expect to not be able to view anything. Could the DVD head be bad? Any further ideas? So, if your drive can access a CD but cannot access a DVD, you have a defective drive. Jim
