Converting Mac File Names for XP

Hi,

I wonder if anyone can help me? I've been given a DVD by a friend

containing MP3 files, burnt on his mac. The problem is that some of

the file names contain characters like & / \ * and ?, which as we all

know windows won't allow. I can't rename the files because they're on

the DVD. Does anyone know of a utility that would copy to Windows and

replace the forbidden characters with Windows friendly ones?

Sorry if this isn't the best place to post this, but I couldn't find

anywhere more appropriate.

Any help gratefully received.

Wouldn't it just be easier for your friend to remake the DVD for you,

this time naming the files more conventionally? Depending on what

program your friend used to burn, there may be options to burn for

Windows formats too. Toast has that ability.

Otherwise, unless you can copy the files from the DVD to your hard drive

and rename them there (right-click/drag/copy) you're out of luck.

Copy the files to your hard drive and rename them. If there are a lot of

files then you could use a renaming program to do this easily. This one is

free and works well http://www.1-4a.com/rename/rename-features.htm
