Your not having much luck with this are you :(

That monitor seems fine, you could get them to do it next day delivery as they didnt originally have the one you wanted and you had to choose another, ring them and see what they say, I think its only about £7 for delivery on a Saturday anyway

Nope I'm not having much luck :(

I called them yesterday and they said the cut off time was 8pm for next day delivery, so I called at 6:30 to find out that the real cut off for next day delivery was actually 5pm...

 

So my motherboard wont be here till monday as it's already ordered, but hopefully I can tag a monitor in tonight or stick it on saturday delivery...

 

I looked on the site just for monitors now to find that the ORIGINAL monitor that I wanted which was "damaged and not being restocked" is infact back in stock...

 

they are really messing me around right now.

 

Am I right in thinking that this Monitor does NOT have a DVI input? as the name says it does but the spec says it only had VGA :S

Also I can try order this monitor for next day delivery on saturday, I have found this one on eBuyer, it's reduced quite a bit :P

It's also the same shipping charge for nextday delivery as it is for Saturday delivery.. =/ If I had known this last night I would have stuck this motherboard on saturday delivery...

This is winding me up so much...

Typical - I only really get parts that I can drive to collect and at a puch order some stuff like games etc over the net.

As for that monitor its unsure as like you say it says VGA, but on the description DVI, very odd - if the old one is now back in stock then get that one as its far better - I would ring them and really kick off, talk to someone who can actually do something like a manager not a phone minion.

 

Edit to your Edit - that Samsung looks very good for that price - I like Samsung stuff its good quality, and their support is good

Yeah it was hard last night, trying to spell an address to the american woman on the phone was harder than the "typical" cann centres you get :P

 

I'll go now and try cancel this order for the mobo, then reorder it along with this Samsung Monitor for saturday delivery.

 

I'll update you on how it goes when I get home from college :P

So I've finally managed to order that Samsung monitor for Saturday but when I tried to cancel the order for the motherboard arriving on Monday I was told that it was not possible as it was already at the warehouse but according to my account and order tracing they were still stock checking for that order.

 

I'm going to owe my dad a lot of money after all this.... I've spent about an extra £200 more than I originally wanted to I believe i've hit the £1k mark but i've been too scared to add it all up and see :P

 

Ohwell, just gotta make sure I'm up early tomorrow so I get the monitor, then all i'm waiting for is the motherboard on Monday as the rest is already in a car on it's way to my flat right now :P!

 

God this is so stressful :P

Yes, the total cost is now upto £1031.01... my original budget was £850.. and even after Ir eturn the motherboard that I'm not having it will only bring the cost down to £957.19

 

thats a worrying figure :(

Lets hope it's worth it.

It is not cheap -

but it will last you a few years before the requirements start to slip and even then you only need to add a few bits here and there not a full rebuild :D

When its all together and you are playing C&C3 or Fallout 3 it makes it all worth while :)

LOL I was in competition with my friend who started building his months ago but it never got further than the case and fans for about 3 months :P

But I heard last night his is built and working :(

But overall my pc will be better than his haha and he spent almost double that of my current price :P

I feel better now that I KNOW all the pieces are on their way.

Dalo is not here at the moment but may be back later.

 

I would strongly suggest that you leave things until the mobo arrives or Dalo says otherwise.

 

Applying decals to the outside of the case is probably pretty safe.:D

 

Seriously, most everything depends on the motherboard and there is probably very little to be accomplished without it.

One problem I forgot about was, because my HDD was OEM, it didn't come with any SATA cables.. which i only just remembered, I'll have to buy some tomorrow.

 

does anyone know what else I might need to buy? in terms of accessories such as cables?

I have an OEM vista and HDD the rest is retail so I'm guessing I only need the SATA cables.

I was told to expect the monitor to arrive by 12 today... well thats an hour late so I called the carriers to find out their offices close at 12:30 on saturday so went back to call eBuyer who stated that they had only been using this carrier for a week and so did not know much about them...

And to leave it till Monday to see if I recieve it. I'm gonna want my shipping charge fully refunded if it doesn't come today at the very least

Woot, update, my monitor has arrived :D

 

Now waiting for the motherboard which should come sometime today maybe in the afternoon or evening :P

God happy now it's all coming together finally.

Hi,

 

The MOBO will come with SATA cables - so don't BUY any!

 

If you have the case then start putting the PSU in and then think of places to route the cables for maximum airflow.

 

You can add the optical drive and maybe the HDD too as it should not impede you putting the MOBO in.

You need to put the CPU and the cooler on outside the case as they are a pain inside the case.

okay :P and I didn't buy any cables i remembered at the last minute :D

 

The screen came today ^^ and the motherboard is on its way now lol.

I'll do that stuff tonight possibly, not to sure about the mobo yet, might leave that till when ive got some more time tomorrow.

 

any tools I need other than the basics, aka screwdriver etc.?

Nope - just a phillips screwdriver and some electrial tape to hold the wires down under the MOBO, if I were you - you dont want them touching the board really - they are insulated, but just to be safe :D

And thats it really :)

I just wanted to jump in here and offer what I hope you will see as a compliment.

 

I have been following the progress of your build from the beginning hoping to learn something and I have. I and probably others are rooting for you!

 

What you are doing, running things by Dalo as you do and not giving in to temptation is just what we hope all our members would do. Whether it is a project like yours or the need for a solution to a problem, the temptation is always to just try a few things while we are waiting. Giving in to that temptation usually end in tears! :eek:

 

So GOOD LUCK! GOOD WORK! Can't wait for the report the first time you log on from your new build.

Yeah with the amount of my money that's gone into this pc, I'm not quite ready to jump right into it with the risk of it going pear-shaped as the saying is :P

But yeah :D just put in the CD drive and the PSU, motherboard should be delivered by Carrier of my dad later tonight :P

YAY! my first problem, it's all done and working, when I go to install Vista from the boot CD, it says like, "loading files" or whateverm but then after that it beeps and comes up with something about not recognising one of the I/O devices or somehting similar

 

EDIT: never mind, i just rebooted it, went into the setup, didnt change anything at all, but saved and exited and it worked and managed to install vista..

what an odd problem, it came up with that error about 4 times in a row before

I dont trust ebuyer anymore, or the other site I bought off...

The case for my windows Vista, the sticker that has the product key on it, has 2 kind of like, burn marks on it, like it was taken off another PC... and the CD for my Graphics card, the paper sleeve was torn open and the CD was definatly NOT in perfect condition...

 

=/ I feel cheated

 

Another question...

The Asus tools state that one of my case fans is running at about 460RPM and the lowest threshold you can set is 600RPM, so it keeps flashing up warnings and stuff, but I cant find anywhere on how to alter the speed of that single fan, any help? :O

And just one more thing, The mobo has 4 Chassis fan plugs and i have 4 chassis fans, yet the BIOS and all the Asus config tools only show and detect 3.

 

The oen they don't detect is chassis fan 4, which is the main front one, an dif I unplug this as the pc is on, it stops, but when i plug it in again it kind of repeatedly lurches as if trying to start... and will only resume spinning if I start it with my fingers :S any ideas? and for my other problem of the low RPM, i have tried plugging it into a different fan slot and it does exactly the same. :S

They are in the overclocking options (top left) of the BIOS and ASUS Q FAN controller and you expand all of those and you can change the settings there -

is it all done and dusted and built now then?

If I were you about the stickers and the CD call them up and complain - were the boxes sealed in selophane?

No.. the only box that was in selophane was the PSU, the motherboard was in just the normal cardboard sleeve, with the main box inside and the rest were just boxes, the only other thing I know is genuine is the processor as they are impossible to reseal, but yeah, only the PSU was in selophane, the OS was in a sleeve but only held together by 2 stickers about "if you break this seal then you agree to blah blah blah" Should ALL the parts have been in selophane?

 

and can you find me a screenshot of how to change the fan RPM and things? as I'm not quite sure where you mean. I'll ring today and compain.

 

And yes its all together now, I couldnt take pictures of the build as I didn't have my camera :( But I'll take some shots of the finished system when I can :) and I had no idea how huge the CPU fan was....
