First Time Build :O

No.. the only box that was in selophane was the PSU, the motherboard was in just the normal cardboard sleeve, with the main box inside and the rest were just boxes, the only other thing I know is genuine is the processor as they are impossible to reseal, but yeah, only the PSU was in selophane, the OS was in a sleeve but only held together by 2 stickers about "if you break this seal then you agree to blah blah blah" Should ALL the parts have been in selophane?

 

and can you find me a screenshot of how to change the fan RPM and things? as I'm not quite sure where you mean. I'll ring today and compain.

 

And yes its all together now, I couldnt take pictures of the build as I didn't have my camera :( But I'll take some shots of the finished system when I can :) and I had no idea how huge the CPU fan was....

 

The Box for the OS does just come in a sleave with those stickers on -

I cant do you a screen shot of the fans at the moment - but they are definately in the BIOS under the very top left option and then the top again I think on the next screen and then that should give you the options to be able to higher the minimum RPM - or the actual fan may be limited at that speed and then you can just adjust the minimum level to stop the beeps -

yes but with the OS as I said, the sticker, that you are told is INSIDE the case with the product key on, was badly applied to the outside of the case with 2 burn holes in it.

 

What are my options with this, as I have installed the graphics cards AND Vista before I noticed these problems... I'm guessing getting anything for the OS is now gone as I've used it?

 

And the fans are all the same, they should all have the same RPM, just this one is sticking at about 450 :(

And does that option in the BIOS also help solve my problem about it only picking up on 3 of the 4 fans? When I go onto the BIOS section that shows the fan speed etc, the hardware monitor, it only shows fans 1-3 not even a blank for fan 4

The holes that you describe sound normal on the Vista OS stickers to me -

 

As for the fans - there should be an option to EXPAND each controller and ENABLE them all

But the complaint about the unsealed graphics card is definatly continuing

He he - they may have just not been perforated properly on your lappy :D

As for the GPU - yes definately as that could be a return for all you know!

This screenshot is the closest one to mine I could find.

But obviously just the 1 CPU temp and fan, but instead of front fan etc, it just says Chassis Fan1, chassis fan 2, chassis fan 3. and fan 3 is in red because its below the 600rpm threshold and you can only change the settings to [iNGORED] or display the RPM :S

 

nothing expands or anything, I see what you mean on all the other screenshots on google images of it, they have options to change the speed and things, but not on mine :(

That screen shot did not work - Internal server error

Chassis fan 1,2,3 etc are just generic as people use different cases and different ports etc - set it to IGNORE and that will stop the beeping - IS there no option for increasing the RPM or making the threshold higher?

I cant set it to ignore because fan 4 doesnt even appear on the list.

 

And on one of the Asus utilities tools you can set the threshold, but only the MINIMUM RPM speed and the lowest you can set it is 600RPM whereas its currently running at 450 or so, and there are no options at all about increasing the RPM or anything in the BIOS except showing what the current RPM is :(

 

Shall I try a BIOS update?

What version BIOS are you running?

I am on 16 on mine

When you boot the PC on the post screen there will be a big number bottom left and then a dash followed by two numbers eg 75647-16 the 16 is the BIOS version

EDIT:

 

that is almost impossible to catch its up for less than a millisecond, I went into BIOS to see if it said anything on there but the only thing I could see said "v02.16" i'll keep rebooting to try catch that number but its not easy :(

yeah it is now, its because on the BIOS I had the full screen logo thing enabled, which disguised all of that with the Asus screen :P

 

I cant see a long number with like 2 small ones it seems to go on forever, i'll try copy it all down and put it on here

okay, there's one big long stream of numbers along the bottom when it boots, this is what it says:

And in relation to my complaint about the graphics card being not new.. I just recieved this reply:

 

"Hi

we arent sure what has happened here as all our stocks are new from supplier unless

 

are you happy to keep the itme we will refund £10 as a good will guesture if you are please let us know how you would like to porceed"

 

Ohwow, £10... what an amazing gesture after they've just had a couple of hundreds off me and what great spelling they have there :P

Those numbers mean nothing in terms of the BIOS version.

 

As for the £10 - what a joke - all you want to know is - is it meant to be sealed if yes it wasnt simple as - keep going and ask for someone who speaks English

Thats all that comes up on the bottom, but on the next screen at the top right it says "BIOS v2.06"

Yeah no difference at all - hmm

 

If you are really worried about the fan speeds you can get a fan controller - the Zalman one I have is amazing £30 I think and it displays accurate real time power usage.

I'm not worried, just concerned that theres 4 fan plugs and its only registering 3, should i do the update anyway? just to see?

NO - there is no point in doing an update for something that you do not need - it can cause more harm than good.

As for it not seeing the 4th that is very weird as if there are 4 slots there are normally 4 places for controlling the speeds - are there no drop downs what so ever?

Nope nothing at all, wish i could get a screenshot of the BIOS lol but no, nothing at all you can enable the Q fan thing but thats it, nothing else it just changes to enabled
