Guest Hong Posted September 13, 2007 Posted September 13, 2007 It is documented the DWORD entry "UseMicrosoftProvider=1" at the hive HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\BackupRestore\ will force Windows 2003 SP1's NTBackup to use the built-in Microsoft VSS Software provider, a useful exclusion test to see if third-party VSS Software provider is at fault 1. Does this also apply for XP SP2 platform? 2. Is the default "UseMicrosoftProvider=0" when there is no presence of this value, then a third-party VSS Software provider is used if present? 3. If there're more than one third-party VSS Software providers, how to select a specific non-Microsoft third-party VSS Software provider to be the default? 4. Can VSSTRACE reveal which one is in use?
