Guest Chico Posted September 13, 2007 Posted September 13, 2007 I want to do a clean install of XP. I've set my boot order in BIOS so that my CD drive is ahead of my hard drive. However, when I restart my computer with the XP install disk in the CD drive, all I get is a black screen with nothing but a small grey bar in the top left hand corner that blinks for maybe 30 seconds, then the computer proceeds to load XP. Please help.

Check the CD in a different computer. If it doesn't boot there, you know something is wrong with the CD. 2. If the CD works fine in a different computer, you know there is something wrong with your optical drive in the original machine. Swap it out for a known-working one.
