Trust Setup

I have two domains: domain1.com and domain2.local. The FSMO roles

for

domain1.com are located on ted.domain1.com. The FSMO roles for

domain2.local are located on bob.domain2.local. I would like to

setup

a a one way trust so users in domain2.local can accss resources in

domain1.com.

 

The domain functional level for both domains is Windows 2000 Native.

Ted.domain1.com is a Windows 2003 domain controller.

Bob.domain2.local is a Windows 2000 domain controller

 

 

I setup DNS in domain1.com with a primary zone of domain2.local and

specified the ip address of bob.domain2.local.

 

 

In addition, I setup DNS in domain2.local with a primary zone of

domain1.com and specified the ip address of ted.domain1.com.

 

 

When I go into Domains and Trusts on the bob.domain2.local and

specify

a trusted domain, it is asking for a password but it seems to want

that password setup beforehand. Where do I specify that password on

ted.domain1.com?

Hi Brian,

 

The password that you use when creating the trust is just a shared secret.

You make one up for the trust when you create one end of it and you'll just

have to make sure you use the same password when you set up the other end of

the trust.

 

As to the DNS, what you've done will work, but you could just get that done

with forwarders or adding the DNS servers int he other domain and adding the

search scope. This would reduce your overall complexity.
