Ok - take the HDD out of the enclosure and connect it directly to the PC that you are 'slaving' it to, by this I mean put it as a slave on the main cable.

boot the PC and see if its in My Computer.

If not then go to control panel, admin tools, computer management and then disk management on the left hand side - there will be a list of drives connected to the PC optical and HDD and then just right click on your drive and 'activate' you should then be able to access the drive in my computer :)

That HDD will not boot

That HDD will not boot remember it gets the unmountable boot volume message. so how would i even be able to start the computer like that.

You are not trying to boot from it - you are using another PC yes that has an OS on it?

then what you are trying to do is add the drive as a secondary HDD, not boot from it.

This is the easiest way to get the data off it - there are obviously issues with your HDD and as you cannot boot from the drive - you need to slave it to another PC so that you can get your data off it.

There are no other ways:-

what are you having trouble with - can you not open the PC that you are trying to slave it to or can you not add an HDD - I can talk you through both, if the enclosure that you have does not work then you could buy another, but what I have suggested is Free and is the best option.

The enclosure works fine and the HDD is installed on my computer and is there under G:/ in my computer but when i click on it to open it i get the

"G:/ is not accessible

Error performing inpage operation"

message.

It sounds to me that this sata drive is completely knackered JJ :(

right that makes more sense - the drive is giving you that error as it has an OS on it - goto

control panel>admin tools> computer management>disk management and then right click on the G drive and try and activate it - I am guessing you may have to change it to a simple volume - but come back and let us know what it says.

If you have inserted this sata drive into an enclosure then attached it via USB then the host pc should see it and whatever is on it.

It's not being used as a boot drive so whether there is an os on it or not is irrelevant.

Your saying you can't access it and it's my opinion the reason you can't is because it has died.

99.9% of the time when you see the words Unmountable Boot Volume it means the drive is dead.

You might see it in the bios as being physically attached but that doesn't mean it's working.

Is it listed in My Computer and if so can you explore it?

Do you have need of a paperweight JJ because that's all the drive is worth mate.
