GRANDAD Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 Hi to all, please bear with me as i'm new to this, And am learning about PC's.-----Slowly.---- I'm still in the age of the slide rule !! In short im looking for a sound driver for the followin MEDION PC MT5 TYP MEDMT144 ?? THIS UNIT WAS BOUGHT FROM PC WORLD IN ABOUT 2002. I'm trying to help a fried restore his PC. His son downloaded a virus, then the PC ended up with what i think is called the blue screen of death [may have that wrong] We were able to re format and upgrade to windows xp pro, the PC works fine now with the exception of the sound. The problem being that now there is no sound--the sound system is 'grayed out'. The device manager shows a yellow symble. At this time i'm unable to supply any more information but would hope the above would cover the main points. Iwould be very greatful for any assistance a member could give. thanking you in anticipation. Quote

GRANDAD Posted October 7, 2008 Author Posted October 7, 2008 MEDION DRIVER Thanks, i did try that, and downloaded AC97 ? however this did not work. Also the medion site, or part of it, says all drivers here except PC's bought from PC WORLD.??? Quote
RandyL Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 For PC Worlds drivers start at the site that supports them. TECHGUYS. You might have to look in your Device Manager to see what you have first. GRANDAD Posted October 7, 2008 Author Posted October 7, 2008 Here you go Download Medion Drivers Hi again--do you think that i may be better off to purchase a new sound card and install that ?? i dont know but is the sound built into the mother card ??. Quote
RandyL Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 You should only need the correct drivers. If he doesn't have a driver CD that came with the computer then you just need to download the correct ones after the reinstall. Quote We are all members helping other members. THANKS I NOW HAVE A COUPLE OF DRIVERS FOR AC 97--ALBEIT ONE IS APPROX 17.4mb AND THE OTHER FROM PC WORLD IS 30.4ish. i will try these both in the next day or so. many thanks. Quote
GRANDAD Posted October 8, 2008 Author Posted October 8, 2008 Where does it say that Grandad? I MAY HAVE THIS INCORRECT BUT I WAS ON THE FOLLOWING SITE, WHICH I MAY HAVE READ INCORRECTLY, NOT KNOWING A LOT ABOUT PC,s. MEDION UK-SERVICE & SUPPORT-DRIVERS AND UPDATES. READS:-NOTE:- PC WORLD PC's ARE NOT COVERED HERE, PLEASE LOOK HERE FOR DRIVERS AND UPDATES. [THIS WAS THE PC WORLD SITE] P.S. THE DRIVERD I DOWNLOADED FROM PC WORLD IS OVER 30mb, BUT I WILL TRY SOON. THANKS AGAIN FOR ASSISTANCE. Quote
RandyL Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 I could be wrong too but I think you saw that on the Medion site not the pcworld site. Try the drivers from PCWorld ( TECHGUYS. ) not the drivers from Medion. Let us know how that goes. The deal is that some makers use proprietary hardware which needs specific drivers. So even though you have a Medion, PCWorld may have specific other parts installed that need a different driver. So use theirs instead. It still has to be the correct driver though for it to work. GRANDAD Posted October 13, 2008 Author Posted October 13, 2008 (edited) SOUND PROBLEM SOLVED Thanks for all the info - I now have sound reinstalled. I went onto the Medion site which said drivers for this unit were with PC World (tough guys!) - this site did not state which drivers to use. I tried several sites on the internet without any luck. Went to PC World where the unit was bought and they said, "You just need the driver." "Yeah", I asked, "Which one?". Gave them the number MT5 and guess what - the could not find the driver either. They covered the same sites as myself. They said to take the base unit into them and they would check if they found the driver, they would put it on a disc cost; £15 - £25. Or, I could install anew sound card; which I bought as a back up, only thing is its now going back! The punch line being I went to Ebay ans found someone selling a similar unit, MT6 - they listed the full spec. "Thank You". The sound was SIS7012 which in turn was AC'97. This sounds good but I don't have a clue. Having found on the internet, loaded it onto a disc and went through the device manager to reinstall the driver and yes! it worked - we have lift off and sound. Thanks again to all involved, I will stay in touch with the site for future reference. GRANDAD. Edited October 14, 2008 by Goku Quote
Dalo Harkin Posted October 14, 2008 Posted October 14, 2008 Well done on finding a resolution :) We do normally recommend to people that are having serious sound issues - as in obscure drivers or having issues when the drivers are all ok to just buy an 'add in' sound card as they are about £5-£10 and they come with the driver that is needed and they are far superior to onboard sound. Seth Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 Like mine, most computer shops should have dozens of second hand sound cards. When a customer requests to purchase one of these, I just give them one for free. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help.
