Guest Racey Posted September 14, 2007 Posted September 14, 2007 Guess I push it too hard (too full) and now it will not fully boot up. I can go to Safe mode and when "fully' loaeded, there are only 4 words "safe mode display at the 4 corners and nothing else, a black screen on this IBM XP Home labtop.. I can go to task manager and most of the services "status' blank. Some of them would not allow me to 'start' it giving error 1084( cannot start in safe mode ). Any clue as to where I can get access to c: drive and transfer out some ddata. Or is the problem a bit bigger than I think. Thanks
Guest Harry Ohrn Posted September 14, 2007 Posted September 14, 2007 Re: xp Home cannot fully boot up? How recent is the problem? Have you tried using Last Known Good configuration? Guest Harry Ohrn Posted September 14, 2007 Posted September 14, 2007 Re: xp Home cannot fully boot up? You can use another CD with your own Product Key (not someone else's key) providing it is same version as the one installed. For example if the version installed is an OEM XP Home edition you need a generic OEM XP Home CD or else your Product Key won't be accepted. If XP came preinstalled on your computer you should consult the documentation that came with the system as there maybe a partition on the drive that you can use for recovery purposes. -- Harry Ohrn MS MVP [shell\User] http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp "Racey" <Racey@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:C6D91A09-6A45-4C0A-8CDF-C72CE4226B0E@microsoft.com... > Since there is no recovery cd, it it ok if I use another xp home and try > to > do a repair? Guest peter Posted September 15, 2007 Posted September 15, 2007 Re: xp Home cannot fully boot up? in the same command window...type in C:\windows\explorer.exe this should open the windows explorer and you should see your HD and the directory structure. From that command prompt window you could also try the System File Checker............sfc /scan now It seems you have lost part of the OS.......so after moving your personal data off i would suggest a reinstall ot a repair install. Some research tells me a virus called F-Nimda can cause this.........how is your anti virus program?? look for a file named bxomebc.exe ..if you find it delete it.......but it will only stay deleted till you reboot....only a Virus Scan will quratine/delete it peter "Racey" <Racey@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:0AD4AD9E-0996-4F78-AD65-B049C18E0773@microsoft.com... > Sorry, I can see the "NEXT' now as it was block by the previous dialog.but > its still load till my wall paper and nothing happen, (back to Dec 206). > Isthere a way to reach C; drive? > > "Racey" wrote: > >> After typing in the command given, I can get to "system properties" >> dialogue> >> and here what do i do as the System Restore, it does not give me the >> usual >> table where you can choose the date.
