Guest Frusrated Posted September 14, 2007 Posted September 14, 2007 RE: How to re-install windows installer I have exactly the same problem where I cannot install, update or deinstall anything which uses the Windows Installer ( cannot even update Windows itself...). If a program or a game is updating through its own system (like Nod32) it updates perfectly. If I try to deinstall those programs in belief that I can update them by downloading the newest available software, it says there is an error in Windows Installer and that I need to contact further customer support (which I have done now thrice in vain). I have so far downloaded 2 different Windows Installer versions and over three different Windows XP patches and updates either related to XP Home Edition or SP2. I am currently using Windows XP Home ED SP2. I have more or less learnt to live with this problem since I do not use that many programs however, when even good old MSN stopped working because I need to download the new version in order to continue to use it... this is getting incredibly silly. I cannot even download and install the new version for Christ's sake... and I can't deinstall it either... The only solution I see for now is to deinstall or using some kind Windows repairing tool since it seems like not even the updates themselves seem to actually install (it kinda goes somewhere like "preparing to install..." and at some point it says it is finished despite it didn't show any process whatsoever).
