Guest Musawwir Spiegel Posted September 14, 2007 Posted September 14, 2007 Is there a way for me to disable the "Desktop Cleanup Wizard" from appearing on my screen and prompting me about unused program icons on my desktop? I am perfectly aware that I can delete any desktop icons any time I wish. I don't need this annoying pop-up to remind me. For the Microsoft product, I chose "Windows XP Service Pack 2", which is the OS I am running. When I saw no result that was pertinent, I posted this message to the newsgroup. Then, as an afterthought, I did the same search, but for the product, I chose "Windows XP". That led me to find Article ID : 320154 - "HOW TO: Disable the Automatic Desktop Cleanup Feature in Windows XP". That article answered my question. It seems pretty stupid to me that Microsoft would have a separate product choice on the Knowledge Base for Windows XP Service Pack 2 that would not include entries pertinent to the originally issued version of XP, since they apply to anybody using Service Pack 2 (presumably almost everybody running XP) as well. I thought that it was not a good thing to do. Only asking because, at times, I really wanted to post a picture that illustrates my question. Regardless of what the rules may be, or what anyone considers acceptable practice, because of the risk involved with opening attachments received from strangers, most of us in the newsgroups (Microsoft or any other) will not open attachments if posted here. I won't, for example, and my advice to others is that they do not either. -- Ken Blake, Microsoft MVP Windows - Shell/User Please Reply to the Newsgroup
