Guest Rebecca Trent Posted September 14, 2007 Posted September 14, 2007 I am running Windows XP SP2. I installed Windows Speech SDK 5.1 from here http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=5e86ec97-40a7-453f-b0ee-6583171b4530&DisplayLang=en After installing, everything worked fine, could get programmatic interfaces to "Talk" and respond. All was well. I un-installed the product to free up some space, and re-installed it to the same machine, Now upon re-installation with no other major changes to the OS, I am unable to get Speech working on development side -- or even in Windows. Let me explain -- when I click "Speech" in the Control Panel, I get this message: "The requested task cannot be carried out because the necessary engine could not be created. Please select a different engine and/or a different audio device". So that doesn't work either. Re-installing the same Speech SDK 5.1 does not fix it and I am unable to roll back because my system did not snapshot prior weeks. Other than a complete re-installation of Windows XP, which shouldn't be necessary, what can I do to fix this? I've followed many instructions for people who have problems with SAPI 5.1. I've looked into the registry for clues... and wiped out all traces of the SDK installation, hidden folders, whatnot. Nothing seems to work. Any other possible paths I can take? :) Best wishes, Rebecca.
