folder redirection for 1 out of 70 users is not working... why?

We have server 2003 and all xp sp2, roaming profiles and user home

directories. Inside our main gpo for all users i have configured folder

redirection for my documents using the setting "redirect to user's home

directory". This works great since the "u:" drive on all profiles is now the

same as the my documents location and therefore all my doc links (on desktop

and in apps) goes to the same place. We have had this working for over a year

now, last week one of the user's my documents folder started not redirecting.

When you right click my documents on the desktop it says "c:\documents and

settings\username\my docs" instead of the UNC path like everyone elses. The

"u:" drive or home directory is still being mapped and is available, all

files are there and work normally. No one else has reported this problem.

Do you have offline folders enabled ?

any eventlog error on the station ?

Sure no one changed the GPO ?

IS he still having the gpo ? gpresult /z shows it ?

Check the workstation's event logs, and run an rsop.msc to check for errors.

Oh, and before anything, do a gpupdate /force.

Done gpupdate /force

gpresult /z shows the policy is being set

right click on my docs shows local c:\docs and settings folder as target

with no option to redirect

i disjoined and readded this pc to the domain with no luck

installed uhcp

deleted profile locally, logged back in as user (roaming profiles)

i do have event id 1517/1524 before i installed uhcp...

 

none of the above has solved the issue, any ideas.

i will run rsop.msc to see what it returns, should be the same as gpresult

/z though...

just did rsop.msc and when it comes up the "user configuration" bottom

portion of the gpo has a red x on it, also a window pops up when you access

the user portion of the gpo and says there was a bad username/password on

accessing the .adm files (admin template).

 

however as stated earlier gpresult /z shows the setting as correctly set...

shouldn't disjoining and readding to the domain have fixed this issue? seems

like a trust issue between this workstation and the domain now... how to fix?

In rsop.msc - click on <username on computername>onthe left

Click on User configuration on the right

Click Properties

Click Error Information

 

That should show you more info.

I dont understand the bad username/password, the user logs in fine.

Everything works great except this folder redirection. Exchange, sharepoint,

log/logout, etc.

I suggest you try posting in microsoft.public.windows.group_policy if you

want more expert help with this. Frankly, if this user can log into another

workstation with no problems, I'd just wipe and rebuild this box (ideally,

you've got images you can use) rather than wasting a lot more time on it.

Actually if i log onto another PC with this user it still is happening

(another user logged onto his pc doesnt have this problem), also i logged

this user out and renamed his profile folder locally and on the profiles

share (roaming prof) and then logged him back in to his PC to give him a new

profile. On the new/blank profile with the same user account i still get the

errors inside rsop.msc... weird. What do i have to do to resolve this? It

seems like its not machine specific, but shouldnt a new profile for the same

user account fix it in that case?
