BSOD error 0x00000050

:confused:i can't get my advent desktop running vista home premium to boot.

when it starts a get the black screen with all the advaced boot options-none of which work, it just stays in this restart boot loop

 

If i try my repair cd, it gots past the black screen with the little green load bar and then the BSOD showing eror 0x00000050 which indicates a

memory or hard drive failure.

after a lot of suggested solutions or advise it says the following.......

it tells about a hotfix, how can this be used if you can't boot?

Have you tried these repairs:

You can also check the ram by using the ram tester on the Vista DVD or Memtest.

I'm not a fan of software memory testers though. If you have two ram sticks then try one at a time. The latter is much quicker and more accurate.

my system came pre-installed, and last year i got an Advent repair CD after phoning them.

I have used it previously very successfully, but this time it only gets so far and the BSOD, so i cannot access the repair menu.

On ordinary start up it enters the black screen with all the advanced options,

but upon choosing any of these they all return to this screen in an endless loop:confused::(

As seth suggested this might be bad ram. Do as he suggested please and swap/remove/switch. It could also be a failing hard drive.

 

You say you have experienced this problem before and took steps that fixed it. At some point you have to consider that this is unfixable unless you replace the hardware or uninstall software that may be causing this.

 

Can you supply more information please?

Since the restart occurs even when you boot to the repair cd, then you don't have a software problem.

 

The most likely culprit will be the ram followed by the hard drive.

Hi Randy L,

The system came with 1mb ram(Bought PC in May 07) and i upgraded to Oz 4mb only a couple of months ago. Everything has been running fine.

A couple of days ago i took out the 2 x 2mb of oz ram and put back in the original 1mb, but same result. i have a feeling it may be the hard drive, is there any way to test it?

You'll need to run hard drive error correction via the "Recovery Console", and the procedure will be determined by the following:

 

1) What exactly is written on the Advent disk?

 

2) Do you have an XP or Window's 2000 disk?

 

3) Do you have a Vista DVD?

 

4) When you booted to the Advent disk, did you ever see an option that said press "R" to enter the Recovery Console?

 

Other options will be to download the Recovery Console, or install the drive on another computer to run the repair.

i have already downloaded and tried the recovery console, but it does the same as the recovery disc.

 

i only have a lap top so can't try it in any machine,

 

it looks like i have two options 1. buy a new hard drive(which i don't want tounless i'm sure that's what the problem is or 2. bring it to pc world and pay for a health check and/or pay for what ever's wrong to be replaced.

 

i would get more satisfaction being able to fix it myself but my knowledge is limited- to put it mildly

Pop that disk in the drive and change the boot order to the cdrom first in the bios Hatters.

 

Make sure you Save the setting before exiting the bios, usually F10

 

Do you know how to get into the bios?

i have tried all that wolfey,

i have the pc configured to boot from the drive first, that's where i've been saying i'm getting the BSOD after the white bar finishes loading and just when the small green blocks load for about nine times then the dreaded blue screen.

i tried taking out the small battery today and leaving it out for a couple of hours.

i also disconnected both cables from the hard drive, i tried the older 1mb of memory again, but same old same old,

 

is there no way to get past the blue screen error?????

As has been suggested this could be down to failing memory or the hard drive or both, without swapping these out to test this is difficult to diagnose Hatter.

as previously mentioned, i have tried different memory,so it must be the hard drive,

:confused: but is it strange for a pc of just over a year old to have a failed hard drive already?

As Wolfey has said - drives can die at any time, have you been noticing the hard drive 'clicking' at all as this is normally the telltale sign that its about to die - some can click for years - I know ;)

As for the RAM - how many sticks of RAM do you have and how many slots in the motherboard do you have to insert them in? - if you are trying the same slot on the mothreboard all the time - it is not uncommon for one of the DIMM slots that you plug the RAM into to be the culprit, try the RAM in another DIMM and see what happens.

:(there are two slots, the pc came with 1 stick of 1mb, i upgraded it by buying two 2mb sticks.

i have tried putting the old 1mb in both slots and even one of the 2mb in both slots, but same outcome.

i didn't notice any sounds leading up to all this, but there is a strange couple of clicking sounds happening now after boot up

'Clicking' is the hard drive I am afraid, get a new one, reinstall the operating system and then 'slave' the second drive to get whatever data you need off it.

We can talk you through this process when you have reinstalled the operating system - again if you are unsure how to do this then say and we can talk you through it.

I just re-read your thread hatters and you should be ok with the disk you got with it.

 

The hard drive is goosed mate.

 

Get a new drive and reinstall Vista, you might need to give Microsoft a ring to verify what your doing but I doubt it.
