Hi Dorsil,

In regards to the Startup Welcome Screen, I havn't seen this before but you could try to disable the welcome screen, restart and enable it again which may help solve the problem.

This can be done by;

1. Click Start

2. Click Control Panel

3. Click User Accounts

4. Under "Pick a task..." select "Change the way users log on or off"

5. Deselect the two boxes (Use the Welcome Screen, Use Fast User Switching) and click Apply Options.

6. Restart your computer, login, and follow steps 1 - 5 again but this time select both boxes.

Alternatively, you could perform a repair on your PC using the Windows CD which will keep all your data and files but will repair any files which are corrupt or missing. If you wish to do this, post back and we can provide some instructions.

What exactly do you want to achieve Dorsil? Do you wish to automate the log on process by skipping the password prompt? Or the absence of the User Name on the screen is striking you as fishy?

If you want to perform a repair install of Windows, there are no special tips but you might find the below guide useful.

How to Perform a Windows XP Repair Install

Hope that helps.

I suggest trying a System Restore before a Repair Install:
