Services not starting in Windows XP

Recommended Posts

Hello there,

I have a Windows XP OS from 2003 which was never in its history connected to

the internet. I connected it. We had problems connecting to their internet

service but I soon realized that the problem was corrected by going to Admin,

Services and enabling the DHCP - starting it. I did also set it to

automatic.

The main problem is that everytime we reboot virtually all of the important

services are not restarted. The DHCP, the windows automatic updates, the

BITS, the themes, the windows installer, etc... you name it.....many

important services are not started and I ALWAYS have to go into services and

START the specific service including the EWIDO/AVG antivirus stuff I

installed for example.

I am at a loss. Can I reinstall the services.msc which will default to the

appropriate values for restarting? I did "author" the services.msc by right

clicking on it and tried to save it once the changes had been made to the

appropriate services that should have been starting but this doesn't seem to

have worked.

I have connected their computer to the internet and installed the multitude

of updates that it needed including windows service pack 2 and I feel that

somewhere along the way things must have gotten corrupted. I would be very

grateful if you had any suggestions.

Thank you,

ST

Set the starting mode of your services to "Automatic", then check

the Event Viewer for error messages.
