Time error

Good Day,

I have setup a lab at home running windows 2003 R2 with SP2 and all windows

updates have been applied. The system is a new install as a member

server/Workgroup.

It seems that I cannot get the time sync up via internet time sync. I get

the following error or errors.

Event Type: Error

Event Source: W32Time

Event Category: None

Event ID: 17

Date: 9/16/2007

Time: 2:41:05 PM

User: N/A

Computer: RAFFSERVER

Description:

Time Provider NtpClient: An error occurred during DNS lookup of

the manually configured peer 'america.pool.ntp.org,0x1'.

NtpClient will try the DNS lookup again in 15 minutes.

The error was: A socket operation was attempted to an

unreachable host. (0x80072751)

For more information,

see Help and Support Center at

http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

I am able to get out on the internet and look at sites. Able to ping google

with both IP and name with no issues so it's not DNS from what I can tell.

the server has no firewall setup on the system at this time.

Thanks

Adam Raff

Hello Adam,

If i check the website the servers are named like this:

0.north-america.pool.ntp.org

1.north-america.pool.ntp.org

2.north-america.pool.ntp.org

3.north-america.pool.ntp.org

0.pool.ntp.org

1.pool.ntp.org

2.pool.ntp.org

These are all pingable.

Re: Time error

I was able to set that for my Server and computers as well as they were

getting the same errors. To be honest I have been looking on the web and it

seems that this has become a big issue of late.

thanks for your help hope this fixed the problem for good. I guess it's a

wait and see.

Thanks

Re: Time error

Hello Adam,

Thank you for using newsgroup!

From your post, it seems this external time server sync issue. I suspect

this is related to the external time server.

Thanks & Regards,
