Guest Flomo Togba Kwele Posted September 16, 2007 Posted September 16, 2007 I've setup a Vista Business machine. I have set Network discovery, File sharing and Public folder sharing on. I enabled a couple of file shares and also placed a file in the PUblic folder.' I can ping the Vista machine from any member of the AD domain to which the Vista machine belongs. The Vista machine can ping any other member of the domain. When I'm on either an XP machine or the DC itself in the AD domain, I get the following error when trying to access this machine via Microsoft Windows Network: \\Dvp3 is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource... Logon Failure: The target account name is incorrect. When I look at the Event viewer from the XP machine I was trying to access the Vista machine, or from the DC itself, I see the following entry: The kerberos client received a KRB_AP_ERR_MODIFIED error from the server dvp3$. The target name used was cifs/Dvp3.mydomain.com. This indicates that the password used to encrypt the kerberos service ticket is different than that on the target server. Commonly, this is due to identically named machine accounts in the target realm (MYDOMAIN.COM), and the client realm. Please contact your system administrator. I am totally lost. Can anyone help me sort this situation out? Thanks, Flomo --

Guest Flomo Togba Kwele Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 Re: Can't access Vista machine in Microsoft Windows Network Thanks for all your suggestions. Disjoining/rejoining did it. About two weeks ago I restored the Vista system from an Acronis backup. I think after this the networking was messed up. -- Flomo Togba Kwele wrote: > If I issue the following command from the XP to the Vista system: > \\dvp3 /user:me@mydomain.com > > I receive the message: > The trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain failed. > > If I try to issue either of the two commands on the XP system to the Vista system: > net view \\192.168.10.11, or > net view \\dvp3 > I receive the message: > System error 5 has occurred. >
