i have been using a wireless keyboard for ages, now i need to do a full restore, trouble is before i can press which key i want the keyboard has not powered up in time for me to press anything, I've tried to replace the keyboard with a corded one but it just wont work,,,any suggestions?

Is the corded keyboard using a USB (narrow rectangle) connection? If so, your main system board may not support it and you'll need to use a standard PS2 connector (small circle connector).

What is the make of your box and do you know if there is a recovery partition on the hard drive?

As mentioned by Seth you are going to need a PS/2 keyboard tp proceed, because at this point your BIOS either doesnt support the use of a USB keyboard or that 'USB legacy support' is not enabled in the BIOS.

Gentlemen let us consider that taking the machine back to factory condition via a recovery/restore partition on the hard drive is not an improbability yes?

 

I myself have done this very thing.
