trmshellway Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 I would like to know what happens to the data you have on your computer whn you do a ctrl F11 restore. Is it deleted, stored somewhere, or what. Thanks, Tom Quote
Seth Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 Welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help trmshellway. It depends on the type of computer, but yours sounds like a Dell. Some will give you the option to "Repair" the operating system. That option will attempt to save your files in a folder usually called "backup". I don't trust that option. I think it's better to back up your important data yourself, then run a complete factory restoration. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. Tootech Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 Where Do My Files Go? Hi, Doing a complete factory restore will overwrite files as needed. That means that you will lose them. Some systems do allow a partial factory restore and save all your old files from the "My Documents" folder and put them in a new folder on your desktop. What make of PC do you own? Tootech. Quote

trmshellway Posted October 18, 2008 Author Posted October 18, 2008 Hey, Thanks for all the responses on my inquiry. I did a ctrl f11 restore and of course lost everything. The reason I was concerned is, I had some sensitive material, ( no, not porn ) on my pc and wondered if it was erased or still on here somewhere. I have a Dell XPS 400. Tom Quote
