RandyL Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 Agreed. OK What does everyone think about Mcain's plan to tax employer health benefits as income? This would mean employees and retirees would have to pay tax on these. Not the companies. It would amount to taxing the FULL cost of these benefits. So if your companies plan was worth $1,000 a month or $12,000 a year for family coverage and you were in the 40% bracket you would have to pay $4,800 in taxes for the first time ever in the history of the USA. This is at the same time as coverage is less, co-pays are higher and employers are demanding more premiums from employees. It seems to me the workers are already picking up all the extra costs and Mcain wants to tax us more on it. To me this seems like a plan to tax the poor and middle class. BeeCeeBee Posted October 18, 2008 Author Posted October 18, 2008 You have hit one of the nails on the head regarding so called Health Plan. But there is more. I am 64 and living in Ireland where the ordinary health service is in pretty bad shape. BUT I get really good private health insurance for around €1,000.00 per year. If I were to change my permanent address to the US I could not even touch any meaning ful coverage for less than $1,000.00 per month. Exactly what good will McCain's plan to give me a $5,000.00 tax credit do. Can you imagine how quickly that will be absorbed as additional profit to the insurers. Fortunatly next year I will be eligable for medicare and then may be able to get an affordable wrap around policy. BUT that is just me. Hillary Clinton was reaally the only one on the right track but in her absence at least Obama seems to be closer to at least making insurance affrdable if not inexpensive. If he could only see Russia from his window he would reaally be the man. But then we can't expect miracles. Quote "Familiarity breeds contempt - and children." Mark Twain
Seth Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 What's up with you Seth? I was merely explaining to Barry that on the surface you may appear to be a grizzly bear but are in actual fact a big old soft pussycat. Sorry mate. I guess I misunderstood. Barry, I'm not mad at all. Although I'm rather passionate about the subjects discussed, and sometimes my words can be over the top. It's nothing personal:). I just didn't want to go on line to find new people not to like me. I have enough of them on the ground.:( -----------------:D Quote "Familiarity breeds contempt - and children." Mark Twain
Seth Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 Just watch the video Seth lol I love The Life of Brian and have seen it numerous times. Thanks for the clip..."Can I go now?" LMAO Barry, I'm Agnostic/Atheist. I would solely choose the latter if it wasn't for a logical problem that I can't resolve. For anyone who reads my posts and takes offense that I call your flavor of deity "Skydaddy", or "Gawd"...I'll be a little nicer and just call it "Sky Pixie":D. Some might find said terms offensive, but I'm of the firm conviction that religion in of itself is offensive to rational thought and human development. Quote Need help with your computer problems? BeeCeeBee Posted October 18, 2008 Author Posted October 18, 2008 I take no offence at Sky Daddy or anything else and neither does HE!! Although he prefers Heavenly Pappa as it is far less limiting. Believe it or not I like to think that I have a certain amount of faith (or is it hope or maybe wishful thinking.) BUT that same faith leads me to the logical and historically accurate belief that Relgion (not faith) will ultimatly fulfill all of its prophecys about armageddon. I hope there is more and try to believe it (maybe for the same logical problem that even you can't resolve.) Religion offends me, you do not. That being said I am not offended by people who practice and believe in their religions as long as they peacfully keep it among themselves and not try to impose it on me or anyone else. If someone wants to try and convince me to think their way they may feel free. Just don't try to kill me if I remain unconvinced. THE REAL PROBLEM WITH THIS WORLD IS THAT ONLY A SELCT FEW KNOW HOW TO CUL BITS OF A PREVIOUS POST AND ADD IT TO THEIR REPLY IN A NEAT LITTLE BOX. Heavenly Pappa will get them!!! BeeCeeBee Posted October 18, 2008 Author Posted October 18, 2008 I should have added that I do not disrepect the believers rather then just not being offended by them. Hi Barry, Your cryptic posts have become tiresome. Put up or shut up. Start by providing empirical evidence for your supposition. BeeCeeBee Posted October 19, 2008 Author Posted October 19, 2008 (or is it hope or maybe wishful thinking.) Seth If there were empiracle evidence of faith it wouldn't be called faith. Now I know that is trite but it remains true. It is particularly true when ones "faith" is as weak as mine. If there were any such evidence there would be a lot fewer wars. Yours is an argument that you can't lose. But don't paint me as an apologist for religion because you would be way off base. I know that Politics and religion are connected far more then they should be but I think I would rather stick to the former. We don't really disagree all that much on the other. Seth Posted October 19, 2008 Posted October 19, 2008 Yours is an argument that you can't lose. Agreed. That's why I chose it. But don't paint me as an apologist for religion because you would be way off base. Ok. Define your "base". Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. RandyL Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 MY latest update: Colin Powell a long time friend of Mcain has come out as fully supporting Obama. He cites Obama as being more able to cope with the current financial crises and being more in tune with the the need for change and a new style that the people want. He also cites Obamas ability to motivate and lead the new generation. As for Mcains choice of Vice President he says that Sara Palin is not qualified to assume the role of President. General Colin Powell is regarded highly in the USA above most of the rest. We shall see if this will have an impact on the elections November 4th. Quote We are all members helping other members.
