No longer have option to log on to Local Machine

Hi, I recently made some server changes (which may be the cause of the issue

I am experiencing) - One server was reconfigured to become the Primary Server

in the domain. It is a W2003 SP1 environment.

I restarted the Servers today after a power failure (the UPS didnt shut the

devices down properly) and when it got to the login screen, I was only

offered the option of logging on to the domain, where previously I could log

on to the local machine too. This has only affected the 2 servers on which I

made configuration changes.

Can anyone shed any light on why this has happened, and put my mind at rest?

Thanks in advance.

You can't log on to the "Local Machine" of a DC.

Is that what you meant?

Hi, yes. These servers are both DC's. I was able to log on to them locally

prior to making the changes.

Is this the norm?

Thanks.

Hello M_Hood,

Like Anthony said, Local logon to a Domain controller is not possible. As

far as you promote it to DC, this option is gone. So either before changes

they where no DC or the change you did was the promotion.
