compressed (zipped) folders option under Send To menu

Windows XP Pro, SP2 + critical security updates

When I right-click on a file and choose Send To, Compressed (zipped) Folder,

I receive a prompt asking "do you want to designate compressed (zipped)

folders as the application for handling zip files?".

If I am a local administrator, I can choose Yes and everything functions fine.

If I am not a local administrator, when I choose Yes, the file is compressed

as expected, but the option to do this disappears from my Send To menu, and

the shortcut disappears from my SendTo folder under my profile. I can copy

the shortcut back into my SendTo folder, but once I do another compress it

disappears again.

Any ideas on how to make this stay for non-admins (besides telling them not

to click Yes)?

Re: compressed (zipped) folders option under Send To menu

Hi Jennifer,

Try this from an user account with admin privileges.

Click Start, Run. Type:

regsvr32 /u zipfldr.dll

Press {ENTER}

Then type:

regsvr32 zipfldr.dll

Press {ENTER}

If that does not help, get the .zip file type association fix from here.

File association fixes:

Thank you Ramesh - the unregister and reregister of the dll did the trick. I

did a reboot afterwards though I'm not sure it was necessary.

I appreciate your help,

Jennifer
