BeeCeeBee Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 :mad:I think I know what the answer to this is going to be but one can always hope. A number years back I took a liking to the point and click type of adventure games like Myst and Syberia, etc. I also took a liking to the Broken Sword series and was pleased that a new one came out a few years ago. I read the specs or thought I did and clearly missed one. The need for a video card with shader 1.1. My laptop just has the integrated Graphics card that comes with it and I believe just part of the Mother Board. Is there any possible way to play this game other than buying a new computer. I am not a gamer and really do not need a sophisticated graphics card. Quote "Familiarity breeds contempt - and children." Mark Twain
Guest Wolfeymole Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 Go to Run and type dxdiag Barry. Post back what it says. Quote

Guest Wolfeymole Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 Tell us what is says under System and at the bottom what version of Direct X you are using. The memory and page file size would be good too. Quote

BeeCeeBee Posted October 17, 2008 Author Posted October 17, 2008 I assume these are the important entries: It wont let me copy and paste never mind got a report. mike Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 It should work fine with the game requirements and your system spec you posted above. Just so you know, you can check the version of Shader with the following link... Shader (computer science - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) I would assume your machine has at least version 8.1 of Direct X, which supports Shader 1.1 Hope this helps. Quote Need computer support? BeeCeeBee Posted October 17, 2008 Author Posted October 17, 2008 Mike it never did and I tried to load it several times. I googled around and from what I gathered this is a common problem with this game and laptops with intgrated graphics. I have not done any of that in at least a year. The specs above say Directx 9.0 am I correct in assuming that is a later version than 8.1. I have since formatted and reloaded everything so maybe it will?? Cant hurt to try I guess. mike Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 Hi, Sorry, I missed that you stated the Direct X Version. Been a long day! If you have formatted since then there is no harm in trying it again. What happens when you try to run it? Are there any error messages? It shouldn't be a problem with the Shader since your using Direct X 9. Quote Need computer support? Then why not join Free PC Help. BeeCeeBee Posted October 17, 2008 Author Posted October 17, 2008 From what I gather and this is going back a while there were posts on Google asking how to play Broken Sword. The concensus seemed to be that it isnt supported on these graphics cards The game installs and the opening movie runs and then it is basically impossible to see anything. Big white spaces no real graphics at all and sound seems fine. There was some sort of a patch that I downloaded from the games website but it didn't fix this problem and never claimed that it would. I'm going to try tomorrow anyhow. No error messages by the way. Quote "Familiarity breeds contempt - and children." Mark Twain

BeeCeeBee Posted October 18, 2008 Author Posted October 18, 2008 well I reinstalled the game and available patch direct from site and it will not run. I get an error starting directx message and it quits. The site states that it will not run in machines where the video card does not support vertex shading and mine apparently does not. Since I am not about to get a new machine to play a game I am going to give it up unless someone here has aan answer. Actually I suppose I have my answer Quote "Familiarity breeds contempt - and children." Mark Twain

BeeCeeBee Posted October 18, 2008 Author Posted October 18, 2008 Hi Guys, According to my dxdiag Texture Acceleration is not available. Does this have anything to do with vertex shading? All the little test passes for direct x and direct draw. I probably just have a very low spec graphic card?? Quote "Familiarity breeds contempt - and children." Mark Twain

RandyL Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 I'm not a gamer so you may want to wait for more feedback from the members. I have looked at the specs for some games and have seen systems where the programs give warnings like that when trying to install. It usually comes down to not having the proper hardware to support the game. On another note even if you meet the minimum specs I would suggest you look at the recommended specs on all levels. For high end games 512 MB might not even be close as well as other specs. And games are needing more and more all the time. I've said it before and I'll say it again. For the highest end games to play now and in the future you will need a really good computer. You may want to consider a game machine like an Xbox or something similar. BeeCeeBee Posted October 18, 2008 Author Posted October 18, 2008 Thanks Randy. There is no doubt about it. I do not have a good enough graphics card. I just think these guys who made this particular game went a bit over the top for its audience and that is why there are so many questions about it with google. I am not a gamer so it really isn't a problem for me. I played a one or two since and they were fine. I'll just uninstall and put it back in the box for when I upgrade some time in the future.
