hi all, my laptop packed up on me this week and it cost me 150 quid to get it sorted, in case it happens again i thought it might be a good idea to get an external hard drive so i could save my important stuff, can anyone suggest what size/ make i should be looking at, thanks.

I'll leave it to the experts but I'd say as long as it's bigger than your laptops hard drive, or at least big enough to hold everything you need then it will be good.

My brother recently wanted one and I pointed out a Seagate 250Gb one which only cost him about £55

I'm not too hot on good brands of external Hard drives but seagate is well known and a reliable one.

Hope this helps a tiny bit :D but as I said, that's for people with more knowledge of these than me :D

No problem, I have also heard good things about Western Digital, I believe it is, but there are quite a few good names out there :P

Yep, have to say Seagate's have always been good to me. Have sold plenty too and never had one back.

Toshiba's and Maxtor drives seem to have a slightly higher failure rate then most - don't know why, they just do.

Tootech.

Maplins are doing a good deal at the moment on Seagate external hard drives. Have a look at the following link..

Maplin > Seagate External Hard Drives

I have the 750Gb Seagate FreAgent and I really can't complain. :)

I'd also say that Maxtor drives you should stay away from. I've encountered nothing but trouble with them.
