move the licensing server

Hi all,

 

One of windows 2000 domain controller is our terminal licensing server. I

want to demote this domain controller. Then, I need to move the terminal

licensing service onto the new windows 2003 domain controller. So, I

deactivate the old license server and activate the new server and call MS to

reissue the TCAL pack on the new server. Are these steps right? But, we

still use windows 2000 terminal servers. Any issue with windows 2000 terminal

server connection? What if we need to introduce the new Windows 2003

terminal servers, any issue?

Yes, but I would *first* install and activate the new LS, call MS,

install the re-issued licenses on your new 2003 LS, make sure that

the Terminal Servers can locate the new LS and, as the last step,

deactivate and uninstall the old W2K LS.

 

There are no issues with a 2003 LS in a mixed environemnt, i.e. it

can server both W2K and 2003 Terminal Servers.

RE: move the licensing server

 

Terminal server 2000 licensing is different than 2003 licensing..

particularily with regards to Windows XP connections.

Per Device, and Per User cals are also different. Make sure you are aware

of the changes before you upgrade.
