Guest Trainbuff Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 Hello everyone. This is my first message here, and it concerns a problem I'm having when I get to the main screen (the wallpaper and start menu) in Windows 98. This error message keeps coming up: EXPLORER caused an invalid page fault in module SHELL32.DLL at 0167:66869ad4. Even before this appears, none of the icons on the screen will come up. The start menu still appears though. If I click close, however, the start menu will also go away. Any suggestions? I stopped using this computer for this very reason and got a new one; however, I'd like to get it running again because I do miss it a bit. In fact, I've got both my Dell computer and this Windows 98 Computer (an Aptiva E Series 545) both hooked up on the same monitor. I believe that it runs Windows 98SE for I think it has IE5 on it; however, I may be wrong. If you have any good advice or need more information, don't hesitate to post. Thank you in advance

This ought not to happen, suggesting that one of these two files has been corrupted. The trouble is that both have been patched (repaired, upgraded) by Microsoft since your Win98 was installed from the CD. But you could always try recopying the 1998-dated files from the CD via SFC = System File Checker (set to restore these two named file in the c:\windows folder.) -- Don Phillipson Carlsbad Springs (Ottawa, Canada)
