HDMI

Hi all

Hope you can help I am in the process of drawing up a pick list of parts to build my computer, but I am having trouble with the Graphics card.

 

What I would really like is to have a HDMI output port on it as I will be using a 22 inch HD telly as the moniter.

 

I am presumming a HDMI connection would be better than a VGA connection

I knew someone would confuse me, and I thought it would be you. NO DISRESPECT MEANT OR INTENDED so is DVI to DVI (if there is such a thing) better than DVI to HDMI?

 

So If I go for say a 4870x2 (Which I have seen you recomend in other threads) it will allow me to watch HD films stored on my server, blue ray DVD's, and use my computer for normal stuff ie Office, Internet etc.

The problem that you have with DVI to HDMI is that HDMI is ALWAYS upscaled and DVI isnt - Maximum HDMI size is 1920x1200 from memory and DVI can do any size BUT most TV's now have a DVI connector - if it does then USE that, if not then use HDMI

So if I am reading this correctly I would be better off with a TV with a DVI connection. This is not a problem as I need a new TV for the kitchen so this one can go there and I can replace it with one that has a DVI connection for my computer.

 

Also do you still recomend the 4870 x2 as the best graphics card, I appretiate this may be difficult not knowing the other components but this section is for graphic cards once I have sorted this I will post a thread in the build section with my full spec

I am no expert on this but I believe DVI can also carry audio signals ie dreambox is DVI to HDMI but carries audio as well. But this is one of the reasons I wanted HDMI to HDMI as its one cable no need for audio cable as well, at the momment I have so many cables running from this to that it just looks so, well just so much a mess
