Guest booker@mgt Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 looking at the DHCP logs on a non windows DHCP server(Infoblox Grid Manager appliance), it appears that my switch ports are active and live on a boot cycle, because I can see the dhcp discover message sent from the Windows XP client, and I can see the infoblox appliance send back the offer. But it stops right there upon either booting or changing networks. It will repeat the discover and offer process about three times.. Now if I take out the network cable for about 10 seconds and plug it back into the machine and check the dhcp logs, I then see the full dhcp process in action.. Discover, offer, request, acknowledgment What, if anything, could be causing this from the XP client side. I am trying to determine exactly wher the problem lies. In a nutshell, most of my XP clients, if their machine is off during the whole time of their lease (12 hours), or if they are on a different network(i.e a home router), and come into my building to get on my network), I will see this discover and offer process occur upon booting up, and then failing. Thus I get calls about, hey i can't get on the network..... if i have them restart, everything is fine... What could be going on?
Guest booker@mgt Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 RE: DHCP question/Scenario Let me add, when I look at the event log for one of my test machines, during the boot, I will see an error about the semaphore timing out But looking at the log after i unplug and re plug in the cable, it just detects that spaning tree protocol is running as information and acts normally "booker@mgt" wrote: > looking at the DHCP logs on a non windows DHCP server(Infoblox Grid Manager > appliance), it appears that my switch ports are active and live on a boot > cycle, because I can see the dhcp discover message sent from the Windows XP > client, and I can see the infoblox appliance send back the offer.
