Sorry

OK I am sorry about this but I have tried to edit my first thread but cannot, so have to post again.

In my haste (and a few Brandy's) I forgot to include a CPU and prices so will try again, I am not looking for a budget machine but do not want to throw money at some thing that will work 5% better than some thing that costs 50% cheaper. I have read Dalo Harkin's build and if I get negative responce to this I suspect I will go along with his recomendations.

Right - lets start from the top - most of the Hardware you have selected is cutting edge stuff BUT they are not needed yet - by the time they are needed they will be so much more cheaper.

So what I have highlighted in RED (and I apolagise for red writing as its rude)

The CASE is the best that is available at the moment for air cooling so good choice!

MOBO - these are outrageously expensive and offer no more benefits than most other boards you are paying for the cutting edge technology that no game or application uses, the same si true of the CPU and the RAM - DDR3 is so expensive its not a good choice to opt for hardware like that when it will be obsolete by the time anything uses it - the CPU is overpriced and no better than a Q6600 as with the Velociraptors they are fast but get 2 Samsung 1TB F1 drives and RAID then in STRIPING mode to get performance (these drives are £70 in the UK now, so 2 is still only half the price you are willing to pay for the others and you get FAR more storage)

Again the soundcard is expensive.

Leave the 64bit OS's at the moment for the sotware compatibility reasons.

If you want to spend a fortune on a PC then there are much better solutions out there - dual CPU boards for example.

Come back with a budget that you want to spend and I will recommend the hardware, but saying that if you do want to spend a small fortune on all this hardware then that is up to you, I am here to help so please feel free to argue any point :D

Thanks for the reply and belive me I do not think you are rude. I take your point and would not have posted if I did not or would not take your advice. BUT after reading what you have said and remember I work away from home a lot I am normally only home for one weekend in three, I think I may put this on the back burner for a while, whats the point in paying a lot of money on something I will only use once every three weeks? I am home at the momment on a local contract which I hope will last until xmas, I have just bought a 46" HD LCD telly so am thinking I might be better off getting a HTPC at least the wife would get some benifit from it and it would be a higher spec than the computer I have now, so if need be I could use it when I am home (as long as Eastenders, Corrie, Emerdale, etc, etc is not on) anyway sorry to have wasted your time, if you have any specs on HTPC's please let me know.

PS

I forgot to thank everyone on this site its so friendly and if you ask silly questions no one flames you, I had no hesitation in making a contribution to this site as if you think about it people like me (and theres a lot of us out there) would not be heading for this site (as without donations it would not be here) but for the toolbox, for the biggest hammer we could find. Think about what you've saved by visiting this site and give a little back. I thank you all

It may make more sense for you to just buy a high end laptop if you are on the move, but still want to play games etc, although they are not easily upgradeable it is worth looking at some inlight of what you said - and thanks for your kind words -

I always say that we all started somewhere when it comes to PC's :D
