IE7 vs Firefox etc

In an attempt to resolve a recent problem that ultimatly ended in a "crash & Burn," I tried installing Firefox, Safari in a hope that the problem was browser related. It wasn't. But it dis leave me with an overall question as to whether one browser is really better then another. I don't see any thread that actually addresses this but I may have missed it.

 

I have a so-so broadband connection that delivers 1800 kbs at best. I am using IE7 and am pretty familiar with its ins and outs. I have no strong feelings about Microsoft so would not change as any sort of rebellion.

 

I know there are strong feelings about this but I really would like to know what, if any, real benefits I would get that would compensate for having to learn a whole new browser. I see threads with problems on all browsers. Opinions please and thank you.

I've just about tried them all Barry and I am of the opinion that Firefox is by far the best and even faster when combined with Firetune.

 

Safari should be just left to the Mac OS where it belongs.

 

We see far more problems occurring with IE than Firefox.

 

Opera is so so but at the end of the day it's up to you mate.

I suppose that is the answer I expected but since I respect your opinion it does carry weight. (As opposed to articles and reviews from people I do not know.) So I will give it a try but first a few simple questions.

 

1. I asume that Firetune has to do with tuning and not tunes. (as in itunes)

2. Are there any recommendations for settings and add ons?

3. Does it still default to Windows Media Player?

4. Will I get the full benefit if I don't make it the default browser while I am learning it.?

Firetune tweaks the FF settings to make it load faster.

 

I don't bother with any snappy themes or skins for firefox.

 

I prefer VLC Player rather than WMP for media.

I can't remember the last time I used IE Barry except to access the Job Centre site before they changed it so FF could run it.

I use both regularly. I don't bother with add-ons for FF. FF will let you choose what player to open downloads. It doesn't matter if you choose IE or FF as a default browser.

 

Like Bob said it's a matter of choice but I mainly use IE. However there are times I prefer FF.

HELP! Ok I am here on firefox seems fine but boy did I do something wrong downloading firetune. Apparently it downloaded as a zip file (win rar) and in trying to deal with that i simply lost it. I tried to do a search and it comes up empty.

What the h*** did I do?

(I don't know why I do that except that someone once told me it is safer so it can be scanned etc.) This time I just elected to run it and windows regarding winrar came up that I have never seen before.

The site you list is one I have used and have no problem with it. "TotalIdea"

 

I'm not convinced however that you need this. FF is already fast.

 

The download is a zip file not a rar file. As such just right click it and choose EXTRACT ALL. This should prompt you to extract it to a folder that is in the same location as the zip file unless you change it.

 

Open the new unzipped file to install it.

 

If you can't find it you could do a search or just extract it again or download it again. Pay attention to the save in folder.
