The site you list is one I have used and have no problem with it. "TotalIdea"

I'm not convinced however that you need this. FF is already fast.

The download is a zip file not a rar file. As such just right click it and choose EXTRACT ALL. This should prompt you to extract it to a folder that is in the same location as the zip file unless you change it.

Open the new unzipped file to install it.

If you can't find it you could do a search or just extract it again or download it again. Pay attention to the save in folder.

That is what I normally would do. I have no idea what happened but have searched several time so somehow I must have canceled the download or it just likes to play hide and go seek.

I will just learn firefox first.

When you do get it again and it has downloaded right click the zip and click Extract here, open the extracted folder and double click the application icon.

Good idea. After you learn more how it works you can help with the questions other members have.

Got it done BUT. I went back to the site to redownlaoad firetune at least to see where I amy have gone wrong. I told it to save and a small window opened in the browser showing both the present installation and the one I did before.

I did not get the usual window I am used to asking me where I want to save the file. That is something I do not like because I save these things to a specific folder all the time.

Anyhow I cllicked to go to the containg folder (which by the way has a winrar icon because it is the only extracter that I have at the moment.) I clicked to extract here and wound up wiht about 2 dozen files on my Desktop. (I know how to handle that so it is an annoyance not a problem.)

Is there something I am missing about saving downloads in Firefox because all that has me really confused and thinking that it may be more bother then it is worth.

SORRY GUYS!!! I found it under tools where it defaulted downloads to desktop and changed it to always ask me. Odd that the original download did not actually show on the desktop or I would have noticed it.

It's a zip file bee. It's showing a rar icon because like you said you have a rar extractor installed and it has taken over the compressed file formats.

Why do you have a rar extractor program installed? rar files can contain malicious code if they don't come from a trusted site.

Where did you get the rar extractor and which one is it and why do you need it?

I ask because issues like this can cause serious issues and infections.

Just use IE7, as there is no significant difference.

Since I have been stuck in a hotel with a really slow wi-fi connection I have taken some time to play with both browsers and I believe that while I noticed very little difference at home there seems firefox seems to be noticeably faster under these conditions. I also like the fact that instead of just a status bar it seems to inform what stage it is at when there is a slow opening url.

What I am not sure of is the settings. In IE7 I have selected a medium high seting that seems to block most third part cookies. In firefox the choice seems to be to allow or disallow 3rd party cookies. What would I lose, if anyhting, by simply clicking disallow?

Thanks.
