Guest bbxrider Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 after changes have been made to the path variable via edit in the system panel, is there anyway to activate/register that new path value other than reboot?

It has no effect on pre-existing processes.
Guest bbxrider Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 Re: changes to path variable thanks for the reply ok, but here's what happens on my xp pro, i thought the change i made to the path variable, in system variables, would be effective immediately for running programs in the directory added to the path variable i add a new directory to the path variable via the system panel/environment variables -in the command prompt window, the new directory does not appear on the listing from the 'path' command -again, in the com prompt window, i can't run a program from the newly added directory, see below 'someprogram.exe' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. -i did double/triple check that i did add the correct path name for the directory i want to add to the path variable "Pegasus (MVP)" <I.can@fly.com> wrote in message news:uwtduWc%23HHA.4712@TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl... > > "bbxrider" <bxtrap01@job1data.com> wrote in message > news:OStJnDc%23HHA.1212@TK2MSFTNGP05.phx.gbl... >> after changes have been made to the path variable via edit in the system >> panel, >> is there anyway to activate/register that new path value other than >> reboot? >> > > The change you make is effective immediately for all newly > launched applications. Guest Pegasus \(MVP\) Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 Re: changes to path variable What you report illustrates what I said: Your change to the path will NOT affect your pre-existing Command Prompt. You must start a new Command Prompt to see the change.
