Duh question about TS versus RDC

If I purchase 5 user CALs of TS does that equal 7 CALs altogether seeing as

two users can RDC into a server currently?

How does licensing work in this instance?

Thanks,

JM

Re: Duh question about TS versus RDC

No.

When the server is in Remote Administration mode, you have 2 free

connections (+ 1 console session), which don't require any TS CALs

at all, only for Administrators.

When you install Terminal Services, *all* connections need a TS

CAL. The only exception is a single connection to the console of

the server, which never requires a license. You can start a console

session with "mstsc /console".

So when you buy 5 TS CALs, you will have access for 5 user sessions

+ 1 Administrator session.

All of the above assumes that you are running 2003. W2K TS doesn't

allow connections to the console.
