I hope im doing this right :) Well my problem is that I have Windows Vista and well, I play games mostly the Sims (woop) and it played perfectly. Everything was hunky dory until my Dad "accidentally" upgraded the computer and it got rid of the program we needed to play it, it says "Failed to find and DirectX 9.0c Compatible Graphics Adapter in this system," but it played it before so I was wondering if anyone could help because im not amazing with computers and I really don't know what happened. I just need to know if theres anything i can download to get it back again ect. Please help if you can, thanks

Vista uses DirectX10, if you go to windows update - if it needs an update for the DirectX it will do it there - failing that it will have DX9 on the SIMS disk - if you right click the Optical drive for eg D:/ and click explore - there should be a DirectX distributable file - run that and it should all work.

Just reading your post I am wondering if your dad has removed the drivers for your graphics card.

The way to check is to right click on the My Computer icon, then select properties at the bottom.

Then, look in the left hand side at the top where it says Tasks, first one down is Device Manger, click it.

You are looking for a line called Display Adapters, look in there and if there is a yellow warning - like an exclamation mark against it, then it needs a driver update.

If not, great, count that possibility out......

I'm really grateful for your help but i did what you asked, going onto the device manager thing and it did have the exclamation mark but when i tried to update it, it said that it was all up to date. Oh and well, im not too sure what the first reply means lol... im a little slow :) I think that i need a new Adapter or card, if so can you recommend anything? or anymore tips or hints? i just have no clue aboiut what has happened. thanks alot :) Claire x

Ok - can you go into the C:/ drive and then there is a folder called NVIDIA or ATI click in there - and list what files there are please.

I think your PC is an Advent T9608, with an Nvidia 7200GS graphics card.

In the folder Dalo asked you to look for should be a file named setup.exe - if you can find it, double click it to run the installer.

If you cannot find it, you can download the latest drivers from here

GeForce Release 178

Let us know how you get on.

Right - download the driver GeForce Release 178

then go to add/remove programs REMOVE the NVIDIA display driver.

Go to the C:/ Nvidia folder and DELETE all the contents inside it.

RESTART the PC

and then install the driver listed above and then RESTART - should all be ok

Hey guys, I want to thank you alot for both your help. I rang up the PC company and they told me that my computer had out-dated my DirectX so me and my dad decided it better to start again. We backed up all our files onto a DVD disk and did a Full Destructive Recovery, started from scratch. Our computer is what it was like before and I have all of my DirectX info back. There is a small problem though, we back up our files but they dont seem to want to come off the disk lol, we followed the book and stuff but the programmes arent coming back. Any suggestions? If not, thanks so much for all your help :)

The files will be Read only Dawn so instead of trying to Cut and Paste the files just Copy and Paste the files to a desired folder on your machine.
