Guest JanAdam Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 I have just connected my brand new PC (Win XP pro with all current updates) to my small home network. My problem is that the new PC has a problem with printing to a network printer, HP 3055 all in one, connected directly to a router via an Ethernet cable. Other two computers on the network print to this printer OK. On the new PC I have tried to add the printer using a window wizard. My HP printer driver was not listed there, so I run Windows update (perhaps I should have selected ‘have disc’ instead). Anyhow, after the update my printer showed up on the list. I have added it and set as a default. It shows on the list of available printers as a default, as expected. However, printing a test page fails. The new PC connects to the Internet via the router OK and sees the other two computers, i.e., I can copy from shared drives, etc. By the way, how can I get the printer IP address from a PC that connects OK? One is a Win XP, the other W2K, both pro, with all current updates. Any suggestions, please? I posted this question at Printer and Faxes this morning but very little activity seems to be going on there. Thus, I apologize for double posting. -- JanAdam

The HP software should find the printer during the installation routine. If it doesn't (but it probably will if this is a current printer), then install the drivers only and use the HP Install Network Printer Wizard: http://h20338.www2.hp.com/Hpsub/cache/344363-0-0-225-121.html Normally with network printers you can find out the IP address and other information from the printer menu. Refer to your printer manual for which button(s) to push to give you the printer menu. Just in case I'm not clear enough, the button is on the printer and not the computer. Set it above or below the range of DHCP addresses the router provides, and it's not a bad idea to put the address on a label on the printer. Guest JanAdam Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 Re: adding a network printer Thank you both very much. I have just installed the printer from the disc that came with it and everything is working just fine now. I have forgotten that it is how I installed the printer on my other two boxes about a year ago. Your help and knowledge is very much appreciated, I am sure not only by me but by many others as well.
