Hi Useless,

It sounds like your computer is overheating, or your Power Supply Unit (PSU) is dodgy.

How long is your PC turned on (on average) before it shuts down?

Is it roughly the same amount of time each time?

Have you any fans in the computer?

You can also try the following:

Switch off at the wall first - but leave the plug in to maintain the earth connection.

Check that the case vents are clear and not clogged with dust.

Open up the case and inspect for dust. If there is any blow this away with a can of compressed air. Do not be tempted to use a vacuum cleaner as, although you still have an earth connection to your M/Board, the vacuum can produce large amounts of static which can damage sensitive ICs.

With the side off ( be careful here ) switch back on and boot up.

Are all of the fans spinning fast?

if you leave the side off - does the "shutdown" problem still occur?

There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!

Have you been messing in the BIOS at all - if the power cut out then it could have reset the BIOS also, there are temperature settings in the BIOS and they control the CPU temps and basically if it gets too hot, it shuts down to avoid damage to the CPU - but you can lower/higher the variance depending if it is accurate of not -

pop the CMOS battery out (watch battery) at the bottom of the Motherboard and leave it out for 2 mins and then reinsert it and see if its ok then, the battery could have died and that would cause the BIOS to not hold its settings and I have seen this trip a PC out a few times.
