Windows screen goes black

Recommended Posts

Randomly my screen goes black. I can slightly see my desktop, but not enough

to do anything. I have to close my laptop screen and open it back up for it

to go back to normal. Also when its going back to normal it fades from a red.

So whats the deal here? Anyone know?

I suspect a hardware problem. You can tell for sure

by borrowing and attaching an external monitor. If

it remains on then it's the hardware. If it goes faint too

then it's a software/driver problem.

Like Pegasus says, you have a hardware problem, maybe broken wiring in

the hinge area. Contact the manufacturers tech support.

Hmm Well, I haven't even moved the computer at all then it just started all

of a sudden. I've not moved in about 2-3 weeks.

"Hardware problem" means that some electronic component

inside your PC has developed a defect. This is unlikely to have

been caused by moving the PC.

Bob is entirely correct: There are lots of wires going from the

base part of the laptop to the screen. They flex in the hinge

area each time the lid is opened or closed. One of them might

be broken.

Re: Windows screen goes black

I have fallen into this ambiguity trap too, with "desktop"

meaning two completely different things in computing

language.
