I recently was given a new PC with Linux as the OS.

But today I decided I wasn't getting on with Linux so I installed windows XP proffessional.

But when I connected he modem to the computer I wasn't getting any kind of connection or IP address.

I am pretty sure I accidently uninstalled the network card and am having trouble finding a driver for it.

The motherboard serial number is K9N6PGM2-V

I have searched on google and can't seem to find anything.

Some help in getting a connection onto the computer will be much obliged but im no good with PC talk ha.

cheers.

Hello Tony

Welcome to FPCH

What make and model is the pc?

Posted

I just had a look at the PC and there doesn't seem to be a name anywhere on it.

It was built for me as I took part in a local youth music project which was funded by the council and it's all legit but I can't see a make or model anywhere.

Would I have to go into the dxdiag?

Posted

I have just looked in the dxdiag and found a system manufacturer and system model number.

MSI - Manufacturer

MS-7309 - System model number.

Is that the right information???

Posted

The MS-7309 and K9N6PGM2-V are different boards, both by MSI.

If the K9N6PGM2-V is printed on the board, go with that as sometimes software doesn't get the model number correct.

You'll need to download the full chipset driver pack from here

MSI -- Chipset Drivers

And download the MCP61 chipset drivers.

Probably best to create a System Restore point before you do the install, just incase......

Hope that makes sense.

Are you using the Gigabyte Ethernet on the back of the MOBO or an add in Network card - if its an add in one - remove it and reinsert it and then turn the PC on - windows should recognise as a new device and load drivers via windows update.

If its the GIGABYTE ethernet then you need the Ethernet drivers as listed above.

Intel Q6600 @ 4Ghz (Watercooled)

Asus P5K premium black pearl

4GB OCZ Reaper 8500

260GTX
